SUWON, South Korea — Hundreds of Korean members converged on the Suwon Campus of Kyounghee University on June 6 to practice for the Culture Night Program to be held later this summer as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the dedication of Korea for the preaching of the gospel.

Giving up their Korean National Memorial Day holiday, they all met in the gymnasium for an opening ceremony under the direction of Elder Won Yong Ko of the Seventy. "We want to make a wonderful program for our celebration of the 50th anniversary of the dedication of Korea for the preaching of the gospel and for the 200th birthday celebration of the Prophet Joseph Smith," said Elder Ko.

Following Elder Ko's welcoming remarks, the Korean saints separated to 11 locations around the campus to practice their parts of the program.

Saints came from all corners of South Korea to this city, which is in the north-central part of the country. Busloads of people came from Pusan, Masan, Mokpo and Yeosu on the south coast of Korea, as well as from Daegu, Jaeonju, Gwangju, Daejeon, Incheon, and Seoul. Many of the 1,500 people started early in the morning to be there.

Adults, youth, children and families separated into groups to practice individual parts of the program.

Young adults also practiced a short musical they had previously written about youth in the Church overcoming challenges through the strength of family love and parental leadership.

At lunchtime, families took a break from the practicing for picnic lunches on the lawns surrounding the physical education complex.

Later in the afternoon, the individual performing groups gathered into two large groups and performed for each other. The cultural program will be presented Saturday, July 30, in Seoul before thousands of members and friends of the Church. There will be a regional conference on Sunday.

The individual groups will continue to practice each week at various locations.
