CHERRY HILL, N.J. — Hundreds of willing hearts and helping hands joined June 11 in the Cherry Hill New Jersey Stake Center for a day of humanitarian service. Some 500 members and friends gathered to reach out to the needy. Work stations included sanding and oiling 300 wooden toys, tying 22 quilts, writing 700 cards and letters for U.S. servicemen and servicewomen and their families, and assembling 1,000 hygiene kits for use in local women's shelters. Stake members also collected and sorted more than 1,400 slightly used or new children's books and donated 300 pairs of shoes and 400 pounds of food for the local food bank. Prior to the activity, members of the stake sewed 240 tactile quilts for Alzheimer's patients and 35 humanitarian dolls, knitted 27 baby caps, and crocheted or sewed 30 blankets.
