The Mormon Tabernacle Choir's concert to the Pacific Northwest June 17-July 3 featured performances reflecting a diverse repertoire.

"From hymns to choral masterworks, from folk music to songs of our great land, this program represents the timeless appeal that has engaged millions of listeners over many decades," announced Lloyd Newell in welcoming comments at each concert.

Craig Jessop, music director of the choir, and Mack Wilberg, associate director, conducted the choir and orchestra in the concerts. Tabernacle organist John Longhurst provided piano accompaniment in Pocatello, Idaho, and Clay Christiansen and Richard Elliott, also Tabernacle organists, accompanied during the remainder of the tour.

Each concert began with the choir and orchestra standing and singing "The Star Spangled Banner," and concluded with performance of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." "Climb Every Mountain" was performed as an encore. The program concluded with the choir and orchestra singing "God Be with You 'Til We Meet Again."

With performance dates close to American Independence Day, a spirit of gratitude and patriotism permeated concert venues as the choir and orchestra performed the "Songs of the Land" portion of the program that included numbers such as "America the Beautiful," "Shenandoah" and "God Bless America." At several venues, veterans and those now serving in the military or their families were invited to stand. In each case, audiences gave thunderous applause.
