He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. Matthew 10: 37-39
After serving a successful and wonderful full-time mission in Tennessee, we returned home early due to an undiagnosed illness for which I had to get medical help. After the Lord gave inspiration on solving this health mystery and surgery was performed, we began to live a daily routine in our Paradise, Calif., community.
Nine months later, we were met with a health challenge, when my good husband suffered a heart attack, and once again our Lord saw fit to heal him through wonderful doctors.
Within one month after the heart attack, we were called to serve in the Oakland California Temple, where we thought we would serve for many years.
About 18 months into this sacred calling, my husband and I began to get promptings to get back into the mission field, so we asked Heavenly Father if this was His desire, and if so, we would gladly serve another mission.
As we made our monthly trip to serve our week in the Oakland temple, we talked about how soon we could leave, but the more we talked, the more reasons came to us to put another mission on hold.
On the second day of our week serving at the temple, I was sharing our mission promptings with one of the assistant matrons who, in turn, read to me Matthew 10: 37-39.
I thanked her, for she had been the instrument in the Lord's hands to give us the answer to our prayer. Julie White, New Harmony, Utah
