REXBURG, Idaho A marble statue, representing the boy Joseph Smith praying, has found a temporary home in the first floor lobby of the Hinckley Building at BYU-Idaho. "The Dawning of a Brighter Day" was crafted by John B. Andelin. The youthful Joseph is kneeling in prayer, just prior to receiving a divine manifestation in 1820. Standing at six feet while on its pedestal, this freestanding statue is a solid block of white marble from the Yule quarry in Colorado.
"We chose the west lower foyer of the Hinckley Building because we felt it was an appropriate spot for such a statue," said Gerald Griffin of the Art Department and a member of the aesthetics committee at BYU-Idaho.
The piece is on loan to BYU-Idaho through the Art Monument Foundation of Phoenix, Ariz.
