The gift of the Holy Ghost can bring a light to the eyes of true believers that can be recognized by others.
"The Holy Ghost is that comforter promised by the Savior before he was crucified. The Holy Ghost gives worthy saints both spiritual guidance and protection. It increases our knowledge of all things. This is of immense value at a time when spiritual blindness is increasing.
"Secularism is expanding in much of the world today." It encourages a lack of religiosity and has no confidence in any absolutes. Its focus is on pleasure and self-interest. "Often, those who embrace secularism have a different look about them."
The biblical prophet Amos prophesied that there would come a day of famine, not of food, but of the word of God. But Latter-day Saints can learn the word from church leaders at all levels. "We can read them in scriptures. We can also hear the still, small voice which comes through the Holy Ghost. ...
"What are we doing to keep the light shining in our own eyes and countenances? Much of the light comes from our discipline, dedication and consecration to some important absolutes."
The church offers many truths, some of them unique to the faith. "In terms of happiness here and in the eternities, many of our beliefs are blockbusters. ...
"Service in the church is a marvelous blessing and privilege that brings light to our eyes and our countenances."
