"We lived in the presence of God our Holy Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, in a premortal existence."
Our purpose on earth is to gain a body and prove obedient to the commandments of the Lord. "This experience includes having periods of trial and happiness with the objective of returning triumphantly, having met well the challenges and opportunities of mortal life to receive the glorious blessings promised for such obedience."
There is great confusion now about the nature of God and the purpose of life. God has consistently followed a plan for his children.
When the gospel was restored in this dispensation, God the Father appeared to Joseph Smith Jr. "Our benevolent Father came from his vast creations to this Earth to clarify truth, to disperse the intense clouds of spiritual darkness, to establish his true identity, to restore a fullness of truth, and to provide the only way to obtain secure, spiritual guidance."
But "the vast majority of Father's children have not only forgotten their Father in Heaven and the purpose of mortal life, but they rarely even think of him or ponder for what purpose they are in mortality. They have been led to be absorbed by mundane things that distract them from the essential ones. Don't you make that mistake."
Each of us must come to know the reality of the Father and his son, Jesus Christ. "You must feel how very much they love you."
