I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath, such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants. — Mosiah 4:26
"When we fast, brethren and sisters, we feel hunger," said Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve in the April 2001 general conference. "And for a short time, we literally put ourselves in the position of the hungry and the needy. As we do so, we have greater understanding of the deprivations they might feel. When we give to the bishop an offering to relieve the suffering of others, we not only do something sublime for others, but we do something wonderful for ourselves as well."
