FREEPORT, Grand Bahamas Island — More than 60 people attended the groundbreaking for the first meetinghouse to accommodate Bahamians in Freeport, Grand Bahamas Island. Those attending the Jan. 7 event included local civic representatives, Church officials from Paradise Island, Florida, Georgia and Utah, plus branch members.
"Although this is a very small branch," said President Noel Reynolds of the Florida Fort Lauderdale Mission that includes the Bahamas, "we're eager to have our own building where the members can meet and hold activities throughout the week."
The 70 members of the Freeport Branch now meet in the Masonic Lodge for their Sunday services. The new meetinghouse, to be completed by the end of the year, will accommodate a congregation of up to 150.
