The commitment of Latter-day Saints and others "who have tender hearts and helping hands" has helped succor countless people across the globe.

In December 2004, a tsunami killed thousands in southeast Asia and "shattered the lives of those who remained behind." Immediate needs of survivors were addressed through mobilization of local church leaders and long-term projects were undertaken to restore self-sufficiency.

When Pakistan and India experienced a massive earthquake, the church joined with the Islamic Relief Agency to fill a plane with blankets, hygiene kits, medical supplies and coats.

In Sudan, starving refugees have been fed with Atmit, a vitamin-fortified porridge. Medical supplies and newborn kits have also been supplied.

In 2005, when hurricanes devastated the southern United States and western Caribbean, volunteers delivered trucks with equipment, food and blankets. Principles of work and self-reliance have been taught as relief has been given.

"This modern-day humanitarian effort is a wonderful manifestation of the charity that burns within the souls of those whose hearts are tender and whose hands are willing to help. This selfless service truly demonstrates the pure love of Christ."
