In his instructive sermon to his son, Corianton, Book of Mormon prophet Alma the Younger emphasized the need to live a respectable life before trying to teach the gospel to others. Corianton, in committing sexual sin, turned prospective converts away, the Book of Mormon account says.
Alma's discourse to his son incorporated many important gospel principles, including the role of Jesus Christ's Atonement in the redemption of worthy souls, the state of the souls of men after death, the justice of God's laws and the joy of true conversion.
Moved upon by the Holy Ghost (Alma) had rebuked Corianton with sharpness. Then, after patiently teaching these fundamental principles of the gospel, there came the abundance of love." He forgave and sent his repentant son back to the mission field, where he faithfully labored for many years.
In an increasingly wicked world where youths face rampant temptations, this account of a loving father and a wayward son. drawn from the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, is a pattern, an example. Each of us has a loving Father in Heaven. Through the Father's redeeming plan, those who may stumble and fall 'are not cast off forever.'
