Partaking of the sacrament gives Latter-day Saints sacred moments in a holy place.
As Heavenly Father contemplated sending his spirit children to earth, he "laid out a plan whereby he would offer blessings to his children based on their obedience to his commandments. He understood, however, that they would be distracted at times by the things of the world and would need to be reminded regularly of their covenants and his promises."
The offering of blood sacrifices was discontinued with the Savior's atoning sacrifice. The night before his sacrifice, he instituted the sacrament of the Lord's Supper to help his followers remember him and his Atonement. "Thus, in the ancient law of sacrifice and in the sacrament, the Lord has helped us to be certain that we do not forget his promises and the requirement that we follow him and obey his will."
The instructions contained in the sacrament prayers require that his followers "be willing to do what he has commanded."
The purpose of the sacrament is to renew covenants made with the Lord. It is one of the ordinances of the church and partaken of worthily, "gives us an opportunity for spiritual growth." It is a time for setting aside worldly things in favor of spiritual renewal.
