To those facing personal trials and family struggles, those who endure conflicts fought in the lonely foxholes of the heart, those trying to hold back floodwaters of despair that sometimes wash over one like a tsunami of the soul, the invitation of the Savior has ever been: "Come unto me."
"He is saying to us, 'Trust me, learn of me, do what I do. Then you will know where I am going. ' '
The first step in coming to Christ is to desire to believe, to give "a small place" as a home for the promises of God.
The second step is repentance, changing whatever is wrong that is in one's power to change, and the third, to take upon oneself his name by accepting baptism and temple covenants. Prayer and fasting, meditation, savoring the scriptures, giving service to others and loving with the pure love of Christ further the relationship.
"My desire is for all of us . . . to have a more straightforward personal experience with the Savior's example. Sometimes we seek heaven too obliquely, focusing on programs or history or the experience of others. Those are important, but not as important as personal experience, true discipleship and the strength that comes from experiencing firsthand the majesty of his touch."
