And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. — Isaiah 42:16

In 2004 my husband and I served in the Micronesia Guam Mission and were sent to Majuro. President Phillip G. Pulsipher asked us if we would do what we could to help the Marshallese Church leaders learn how to become a stake. Us? What on earth did we know about becoming a stake? But we had an assignment from our mission president so we knew it was a call from the Lord.

As we were doing our scripture reading before prayer one morning we read from Isaiah 42:16. That was our answer! We were certainly "blind," we certainly "didn't know which path to take," it looked pretty "dark before us," and we couldn't see around the corner. But we knew that God would not forsake us. We used this scripture as an anchor. We posted it in several places around our apartment and we read it often. And we asked God always, for guidance. And He gave it to us.

Then we found that this scripture not only applied to us, but it applied to the district presidency and the branch presidencies on the island. And God did not forsake them. He led them and directed them and encouraged them and taught them the policies and procedures of the Church through the power of the Holy Ghost. They ran faster than we could teach them. As we taught a policy or procedure, they put it into practice. What a fantastic experience! They are not yet a stake, but they are certainly a much stronger district and closer to becoming a stake. — Max and Annette Martin, Raymond, Alberta, Canada
