In May of 1981, as the open house and dedication for the Jordan River Temple approached , Elder LeGrand Richards of the Quorum of the Twelve reminisced about his attendance at the dedication of the Salt Lake Temple in 1893.

"Mother brought us children in from Tooele (Utah) with her for the temple dedication," Elder Richards recalled. "On the way in she told us about the spiritual manifestations that occurred at the Kirtland Temple dedication. When I got to the Salt Lake Temple dedicatory service, I kept looking for angels!"

He didn't see any angels, but he did hear President Wilford Woodruff offer the dedicatory prayer and he remembers the Hosanna Shout, the article stated.

The Jordan River Temple, then the fourth largest in the Church, was the next temple built in the Salt Lake Valley after the Salt Lake Temple, and there was considerable interest in its approaching dedication.

The temple was constructed entirely with funds donated by local members in the 130 stakes within its temple district. Although tickets for the open house were not issued, members in the nearby regions were assigned dates for their families to visit.

"This will help greatly in administering the continuity of visitors and decrease as much as possible any waiting time or periods when the building is overloaded," said Carl E. Pettersson, Jordan River Temple Committee chairman.
