ACCRA, Ghana — Workers in the Accra Ghana Temple were thrilled on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, when 42 members of the Freetown and Bo districts from Sierra Leone arrived to attend the temple. This was a monumental occasion because it was the first time saints from Sierra Leone were able to attend the temple since its opening in January 2004.

From the Freetown and Bo districts of Sierra Leone, 42 members arrive at the Accra Ghana Temple May 2. They are the first from their country to make a temple trip. Eighteen couples were sealed.

The light in their eyes and the smiles on their faces evidenced their happiness in coming to receive their temple blessings. President Mohammed S. Turay of the Bo District, and President Steven L. and Sister Mary Anderson of Freetown District, were in attendance, along with several other priesthood leaders.

President Turay has been president of the Bo District and was called and set apart for that assignment when the Bo district was organized in 1991. He has been a loyal and devoted priesthood leader for 15 years and has seen this district grow from two branches to six in number. They are looking forward to the time when they will become a stake.

The 42 members consisted of 18 sisters and 18 brothers who came to be endowed, four previously who were endowed, and two children. After being endowed, many performed baptisms and confirmations for their deceased ancestors. Following the endowment session on the second day, 18 husband and wife sealings were performed along with two parents and children sealings.

These wonderful saints expressed appreciation both verbally and in written letters for the privilege of coming to the temple. They are looking forward to returning, whenever that may be.

These faithful members have been saving for more than six months to pay their portion of the cost of coming.
