Family: Born March 16, 1942, in Boulder City, Nev., to Elbert Bird and Mary Reid Edwards. Married Judith Lee Higgins on June 20, 1964, in the St. George Utah Temple; seven children: Lyman (Linda); Shauna (Scott) Humphrey; Marylynn (Sheldon) Paul; Rebecca (Troy) Stucki; Mahlon Brett (Kim); Julie (Chris) Kenworthy; Deborah (Paul) Freeman; 26 grandchildren.
Education: Bachelor's degree in political science from BYU (1966); juris doctorate from the University of Utah (1969).
Employment: Senior partner in Edwards, Hale, Sturman and Cushing (merged in 2005 with Wilson and Elser.)
Church Service: Area Seventy at time of call; president of the Zimbabwe Harare Mission, 2000-03; and a former stake president, counselor in stake presidency, high councilor, regional welfare agent, bishop, counselor in bishopric, seminary teacher, assistant recorder at Las Vegas Nevada Temple, temple ordinance worker, Sunday School teacher, priests quorum adviser.
