REXBURG, Idaho The design process is proceeding for two construction projects at BYU-Idaho in this southeastern Idaho town. In addition to a 100,000-square-foot expansion of the Hyrum Manwaring Student Center, a new activities center with seating for 12,000 will be built. Groundbreaking is scheduled for sometime this year.
The extra seating is "the thing everyone is excited about for devotionals and graduations, all those big events," said Marc Stevens, BYU-Idaho media communications coordinator. He added that the center will include multi-use sport courts, "anything to do with sports and the activities program, and for academics, too. They are multi-use. It will provide plenty of space for the activities program."
Brother Stevens said the activities center will be built directly south of the John W. Hart Physical Education Building and will be connected by an enclosed walkway. The renovation to the Manwaring Center, with the expansion on the north side of the building, will include an enclosed walkway to the David O. McKay Library. Julie Dockstader Heaps
