"We can only grow in faith if we are willing to wait patiently for God's purposes and patterns to unfold in our lives, on his timetable."

The perfect example of patience is Jesus Christ.

"His long-suffering and endurance is best demonstrated on that excruciating night in Gethsemane as he uttered, in his atoning agony, 'O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.'"

Impatience can be found virtually everywhere: road rage on the highway and flared tempers in response to slow-moving customer lines.

But to fully enjoy the blessings of the restored gospel, members must follow Christ's example and have patience.

To achieve this goal, read each of the scriptures in the topical guide listed under patience, then ponder Christ's patient examples. Doing so helps one evaluate how patient he or she is. Ask a spouse or another family member to help.

Be sensitive to the examples of patience and impatience that abound every day. Strive to follow the good examples of patience. Finally, recommit each day to become more patient.

"Overcoming the natural man and working to become more Christ-like in our patience is a most appropriate objective."
