Young adults who can sing, dance, act or play a brass instrument are invited to apply for positions in Nauvoo, Ill., during the summer of 2007.
Selections will be made for 20 Young Performing Stage Missionaries and 18 Young Performing Band Missionaries to perform in Nauvoo during the summer season, which runs from the first week in May to the middle of the third week in August. The stage performers will have roles in the Nauvoo Visitors Center, the Cultural Hall and on a large outdoor stage by the Mississippi River. The band's missionaries will perform daily on the band wagon and at outdoor concerts in the afternoon; they will join the stage missionaries for evening performances.
"Serving in Nauvoo is a rare privilege," said Pat Davis, executive director of Nauvoo Productions. "Each year, hundreds of qualified young people apply for this memorable experience."
She said that while talent is important, spiritual maturity and obedience weigh heavily in all final decisions. Each applicant selected must be interviewed and approved by his or her bishop and stake president. "This mission is physically demanding so it is important that each applicant is in good health and knows how to control any personal health problems," she said.
Travel expenses to and from Nauvoo are paid by the Church. Each missionary is responsible to pay his or her own rent, food costs and expenses for other personal needs.
"Young Performing Missionaries do not attend the Missionary Training Center," Sister Davis said. "This four-month mission opportunity should not be considered in any way as an alternate for a proselyting mission."
All Young Performing Missionaries serve under the leadership of the Illinois Nauvoo Mission president and Sister Davis.
Young men, ages 18 through 24, and young women, ages 19 through 24, who are interested in applying to serve in Nauvoo should go on-line to historicnauvoo.net (click on Nauvoo Applications), or send a legal-size, self-addressed, stamped envelope to request an application to: Nauvoo Productions, Joseph Smith Memorial Building, 15 E.
