MIAMI, Fla. Six Creole-speaking missionaries from the Florida Fort Lauderdale Mission provided translation services at the 2006 Little Haiti Health Fair on Oct. 21 at the Center for Haitian Studies in Miami. The health fair, under the direction of Dr. Ty Schwarzlander, a member of the Miami Shores Ward and a returned missionary who served in Haiti, was jointly sponsored by the Haitian Studies Center and the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami.
Elders Mitchell Brown, Stephen Porter, Jason Hooper, Brandon Kent, Trent Guzy and Alan Williams offered the translation services, while Susie Monestine of the Miami Shores Ward assisted. The event offered medical tests, including blood pressure, sickle cell screening, dental education, and children's immunizations, among other services.
