President Gordon B. Hinckley, then president of the East Millcreek Stake in Salt Lake City, spoke in honor of his father, Bryant S. Hinckley, at a gathering on Dec. 18, 1956.

According to the Dec. 22, 1956, issue of the Church News: "Elder Bryant S. Hinckley, noted Church author, educator and speaker, on Dec. 18, was honored by the Church History Club of which he is president, at a party in the Lion House Social Center.

"Members of the club, their partners, and a number of the General Authorities and their wives were in attendance."

The article continued: "Speakers who paid tribute to Elder Hinckley included Elder Richard L. Evans of the Council of the Twelve, President Gordon B. Hinckley of the East Mill Creek Stake, a son; Dr. O. Preston Robinson, general manager of the Deseret News Publishing Company and Nicholas G. Morgan, past national president of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers."

Brother Hinckley was 89 years old at the time he was honored. Over the years he was a stake president, director of LDS Business College and mission president, the article noted.
