To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Wilford Woodruff, family, friends and others interested in the life and teachings of the fourth president of the Church are invited to attend a commemoration fireside to be held in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square.
Events begin at 7 p.m. on March 1, the date of President Woodruff's birth in Avon (Farmington), Conn.
Keynote speaker will be Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve.
Musical selections from the musical, "I Went on My Way Rejoicing," based on comments he frequently made in journals and in speeches, will be provided.
Among other events, descendants of President Woodruff plan to retrace his steps in England where he served as a missionary. Sites they plan to see include the Benbow farm and pond.
"When you consider the major events that preceded Wilford Woodruff, such as the founding of this nation and the birth of other great lives such as Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, whose 200th birth anniversaries we've commemorated, the life and work of Wilford Woodruff become a bridge that connects the days of the early Church with the 20th century when the Church was poised to begin spreading over the earth," said W. Bruce Woodruff, president of the family organization.
