President Spencer W. Kimball attended the dedication of a building named in his honor at BYU on Tuesday, March 9, 1982, according to the March 13, 1982, Church News. The dedicatory prayer was given by President Marion G. Romney, President Kimball's second counselor.

President Gordon B. Hinckley, a counselor to President Kimball, gave the principal address during ceremonies at the Spencer W. Kimball Tower, the article reported. Also speaking was BYU President Jeffrey R. Holland.

"The 12-story building is the tallest on the campus, rising 176 feet above the ground," the article stated.

After its dedication, the building housed the college of family, home and social sciences including the psychology, sociology, history and government departments. It also had space for the college of nursing and other campus programs.
