BROOME, Australia Celebrating the 165th anniversary of the founding of the Relief Society, sisters in the Broome Branch, Australia Perth Mission, invited to a dinner representatives of the Sisters of St John of God, a Catholic order of nuns celebrating their order's 100th anniversary of service in one of the most remote areas of Australia.
Broome township, known as the former pearling capital of the world, stands at the western gateway of the vast, sparsely populated Kimberley Region in northwestern Australia, said Elder T. Wayne Fox of the Australia Perth Mission. He presented a framed painting of the Savior to Sister Leone Collins of the Sisters in honor of their establishing orphanages, hospitals and schools in the region in the past century.
Under the direction of Sarifah Mamid, Relief Society president, the dinner included an address by Sister Jerri Albertson, wife of Australia Perth Mission President Leslie M. Albertson. She spoke of the history of the Relief Society and the important roles women have in the Church.
