"Though difficult and painful, death is an essential part of our mortal experience."

Job of the Old Testament framed what is a universal question for mankind: "If a man die, shall he live again?"

Despite the despairing words of the skeptics, there are the testimonies of such men as Stephen, who saw the Savior as he faced death by stoning, and of Paul, who testified to the Corinthians that the Savior had died for the sins of mankind, that he was buried and that he rose again on the third day.

In this dispensation, the Prophet Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon also testified to the reality of the Savior.

"This is the knowledge that sustains. This is the truth that comforts. This is the assurance that guides those who are bowed down with grief — out of the shadows and into the light. ... Death is our universal heritage. All must pass its portals. ... And dead we would remain but for one man and his mission, even Jesus of Nazareth. ... The empty tomb of that first Easter morning brought comforting assurance, an affirmative answer to Job's question."

"If a man die, he shall live again? We know, for we have the light of revealed truth." Christ became the first fruits of the resurrection, and because he died, all shall live again.
