Tithing is such an important commandment that when the Lord appeared on the American Continent after the Resurrection, he repeated exactly the words of the Old Testament with the promise that blessings would follow faithful payment of tithes.
On an assignment to the Carey Idaho Stake, where members had been adversely affected by a long-standing drought, members were asked to faithfully pay an honest tithe, both old and young; to hold individual and family prayers, to have daily scripture study, keep the Sabbath Day holy, attend the temple often; sustain church leaders and hold a stakewide fast that would include everyone in the affected communities.
With no forecast of rain, many faithful Saints followed the advice. Many met in the Boise Temple as a culmination of the exercise. "While these faithful Saints were in the temple, rain began to fall on the entire area. Though the weather forecast indicated no moisture for the next few weeks, the following Saturday, good rain fell again for a few days." The effects of the drought were reversed.
"Tithing is not a monetary contribution. It is a matter of faith. It is a matter of commitment. Tithing is a token of gratitude, obedience, thanksgiving and our willingness and dedication."
