"During my training as an airline captain, I learned the principle of the 'point of safe return,"' the critical juncture at which a pilot must decide if he has enough fuel to return to his point of departure or if he must continue to the planned destination.
"Satan wants us to think that when we have sinned, we have gone past a 'point of no return,' that it is too late to change our course. In our beautiful but also troubled world, it is a sad reality that this attitude is the source of great sorrow, grief and distress to families, marriages and individual lives."
Jesus Christ made a perfect atonement for mankind. It is the message of love, hope and mercy, that there is a reconciliation of man with God. "If we have taken a wrong course, the Atonement can give us the assurance that sin is not a point of no return. A safe return is possible if we will follow God's plan for our salvation."
True repentance is the condition required so that God's forgiveness can come into our lives. Repentance requires true faith, a return to doing what is right through recognition of sins, remorse and confession of the sins to God. "Repentance means a change of mind and heart. We stop doing things that are wrong and start doing things that are right." We must forgive to be forgiven.
