And again, let all the records be had in order, that they may be put in the archives of my holy temple, to be held in remembrance from generation to generation, saith the Lord of Hosts. — Doctrine and Covenants 127:9

In 1842, in Doctrine and Covenants 127:9, Joseph Smith revealed the Lord's will respecting record keeping.

Many years ago as an Aaronic Priesthood bearer, this scriptural admonition motivated me to begin keeping a record of my life by writing in a journal and filling file folders with memorabilia. Now with a half century of journals and 55 folders, I am putting my records in order by writing my autobiography as my testimony to my posterity in hopes that they will hold this witness "in remembrance from generation to generation."

My journals tell of my sacred experiences and prized times with family and friends. They describe my family history research and service to multiple ancestors as their "savior on Mt. Zion" and my various opportunities to assist others through my callings.

Most important, the journals include my witness of Christ's atoning powers to help me overcome my personal sins and weaknesses.

The file folders contain certificates, diplomas and hundreds of letters and cards from friends and family. They hold all my mission letters to and from the mission field as well as my train ticket to New York and the ship menu from the SS America that took me to my Swiss mission.

All of this is a product of my conviction that God is involved in the lives of those who seek to follow His son, Jesus Christ, and obey His revealed word to His prophet Joseph Smith. — Dale Z. Kirby, Salem, Ore.
