SALT LAKE CITY — Football standouts Eric Weddle from the University of Utah and John Beck from BYU were selected three spots apart in the second round of the NFL draft April 28.
Defensive back and all-American Weddle, a member of the Colonial Hills 2nd Ward, Salt Lake Hillside Stake, was selected No. 37 overall by the San Diego Chargers. The Miami Dolphins made Beck, who led BYU to the 2006 Mountain West Conference title, the 40th overall pick. He is a member of the BYU 97th Ward, Brigham Young University 8th (Student Married) Stake.
