CHICAGO, ILL. Melanie Roach of the Bonney Lake Ward, Puyallup Washington Stake, won her second consecutive national title and seventh title overall at the 2007 National Weightlifting Championships in Chicago, Ill. She snatched 78 kilograms (172 lbs.) and lifted double body weight with a clean and jerk of 106 kilograms (233.69 lbs.), for a total of 184 kilograms, her best total in nine years. She competed in the 53 kilogram (116.84 lb.) weight class.
Along with her national title she earned a spot on the four-woman Pan American Team and will represent the United States at this year's Pan American Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in July. She also secured her spot on the 2007 World Team that will compete at the World Championships in Thailand in September.
