The examples of two seminary students in Nigeria won the heart of Patricia Uzeogwu and aided in her coversion. In 2002, Patricia's father was introduced to the Church. The following day, two sister missionaries came to the home of the Uzeogwus. After some discussion, they gave a Book of Mormon to Mr. Uzeogwu, Patricia, and her younger sister, Chinwe. While her father and sister accepted the book, Patricia rejected hers. Nevertheless, the missionaries explained that they would leave the book with her and collect it back at their next visit.

On the missionaries' next visit, they continued their discussion, but Patricia refused to join them because of her repudiation of the Book of Mormon. The missionaries, however, encouraged her to read and pray about its truthfulness.

When next the missionaries came, she decided to shut the door. They remained undaunted and undeterred by waiting outside until Mr. Uzeogwu's arrival from work when he met them outside and ushered them in. He prevailed on Patricia to change her attitude toward the missionaries whose mission and message he believed to be true.

Weeks later, Brother Uzeogwu and Chinwe were baptized. Chinwe was introduced to seminary and started attending with a neighbor, Abiola Aminu. Soon, Abiola was also baptized. Everyday, they woke up at 5 a.m. to prepare for seminary, which started at 6 a.m. The duo spent most of their time studying the scriptures and discussing seminary lessons, which caught the attention and interest of Patricia and this encouraged her to also enroll as a student.

Patricia found everything about seminary wonderful. Her blossoming interest in the Church made her start reading the Book of Mormon, which she finished within a week. Patricia felt the peace of the restored gospel in her heart and, like Parley P. Pratt, laying the book aside was burdensome to her.

She was soon baptized. Patricia received her mission call on Oct. 22, 2004, and served in the Nigeria Enugu Mission. In demonstration of her patience and faith in the Lord, Patricia willingly opted to forgo her university admission in order to serve a mission. She returned home in July 2006. — Winston Doherty, Ile-Ife Nigeria District
