President James E. Faust, second counselor in the First Presidency, observed his 87th birthday July 31.
He spent part of the day at work in his office. Later, President Gordon B. Hinckley, President Thomas S. Monson, first counselor in the First Presidency, members of his office staff and family members gathered for an informal commemoration in the Church Administration Building.
President Faust and his wife, Sister Ruth Wright Faust, spent the evening with members of their family. They are parents of five children, and have 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
President Faust expressed gratitude to those who sent cards, letters and other forms of birthday greetings and regrets that it isn't possible for him to personally respond to each one.
