MONTREAL, Quebec — Jacob Everts, a priest in the Saugus 2nd Ward, Santa Clarita California Stake, is the world champion in junior division Kata for Shorinjiryu Shindo Karate. Jacob, a second-degree black belt, won the competition here on Saturday, Aug. 18. The competition was originally set to conclude on Sunday. After winning the elimination rounds, Jake felt to drop out of the competition. Unexpectedly, administrators altered the schedule to conclude events on Saturday, allowing Jake to compete for the championship.
