"During the Lord's three-day ministry in the New World, he taught his doctrine, authorized his disciples to perform priesthood ordinances, healed the sick, prayed for the people and lovingly blessed the children. ... He succinctly summarized the fundamental principles of his gospel."

Those basic principles, outlined in the Book of Mormon, are essential to LDS members today and apply. They include repentance, baptism and receiving of the Holy Ghost, coming unto the Savior through sacred covenants and ordinances.

"As we do so, we will eventually and ultimately come to know him. ... The purpose of the mortal journey is not merely to see the sights on Earth or to expend our allotment of time on self-centered pursuits; rather, we are to walk in newness of life and to obtain the mind of Christ."

The challenge is to overcome sin and the desire to do bad things and to do good and become better.

Both clean hands and a pure heart are required of those who would "ascend into the hill of the Lord." That requires obtaining a remission of sin from day to day and walking guiltless before God.

While perfection is not attainable in this life, "we can and should press forward" toward that goal.
