The advice to parents in "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" that they must care for each other and their children is very important today.
The directive does not imply solely that a man must provide food and other items that are needed or desired. "We must also provide our family with teachings." Parents are commanded to rear children in love and righteousness and to provide for physical and spiritual needs. They must teach them to love and serve one another and to be law-abiding citizens.
Family prayer, family home evening and personal and family scripture are key components in meeting this charge.
"It is in the home that the family learns and applies gospel principles. Great love is necessary to teach and guide a family. Loving fathers and mothers will teach their children to worship God in their home."
"We can lay down our lives to those we love, not physically dying for them but rather living for them, giving of our time, always being present."
