Four missionaries from the El Salvador San Salvador West/Belize Mission were recently assigned to San Pedro Island off the mainland of Belize. They were eager for the members of the island's small branch to participate in the April 5-6 general conference. While enlisting much prayer, the missionaries worked for several days with a local cable company on the island in hopes of securing a live broadcast on BYU-TV.

Below are a few highlights of those efforts shared by Elder Colin Howard Blair:

At 8:05 a.m., Saturday, April 5, Mr. Padro Salazar came out of his (cable company) office and in a few short words answered our many prayers.

"Yeah, no problem guys, you'll have the channel all day and tomorrow." In addition to providing us with this great miracle, he lent us cables to attach the recently donated TV set to the cable feed. Everything continued to fall into place. To our amazement and great joy, we found that the rented Church building was already supplied with cable television, and all we had to do was plug in. It really was an inspiring moment at 9:07 a.m. when we turned on the TV, found the correct channel and saw the small BYU logo sitting calmly in the lower right corner. The next task was to notify the members.

Phone calls were hastily made, personal visits and invitations were extended, and, as a result, lives were changed. For the first time ever, general conference was broadcast live to the faithful saints of the San Pedro Branch, Belize City District. One less-active sister, who took part in this great miracle, exclaimed: "There was such power in their words! I loved it." Others simply could not stop smiling.

Prayers were answered, the love of God was manifest, and miracles came in abundance as we listened to the words of the prophets and apostles. We were blessed to participate in the sustaining of our living prophet here on earth, President Thomas S. Monson.

It truly was a conference miracle on the Cayes of Belize.
