President Bush was reportedly accompanied at the hour-long meeting by his press secretary, Dana Perino; senior advisor Barry Jackson; and communications assistant Kevin Sullivan.

President Monson has known President Bush and members of his family for several years. The American president was introduced at the May 29 meeting to President Henry B. Eyring and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, first and second counselors in the First Presidency, respectively.

During the meeting, held inside the First Presidency's Council Room, President Bush shared his perceptions of happenings in the United States and throughout the world. He also spoke kind words about the late President Gordon B. Hinckley and inquired about Church growth and the Church's worldwide humanitarian efforts.

A day prior to meeting with President Bush at Church headquarters, President Monson joined President Uchtdorf and Relief Society General President Julie B. Beck on a tour of President Bush's Air Force One jet.

President Bush was in Utah to participate in fund-raisers for presumptive Republican Party presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain.

While the visit marked the first time President Bush had visited the First Presidency since President Monson became the leader of the Church, the 43rd United States president is no stranger to Church headquarters. He visited with President Hinckley and his counselors on Aug. 31, 2006. Four years earlier, President Bush and his wife, Laura, met with the First Presidency on Feb. 8, 2002, when the U.S. leader was in Utah to open the 2002 Winter Games.
