With the recent appointment of Mack Wilberg as the new music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the search for a new associate music director for the choir is now officially under way.

The associate music director has responsibilities to assist with the choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square in rehearsals, concerts, tours and the weekly broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word. The associate music director also serves as the conductor for the Temple Square Chorale, the ensemble that prepares new singers for choir service.

The position will be filled through a Church-wide search that began Aug. 1, with the application period ending Oct. 1, 2008. Candidates will be selected from the application pool to take part in an audition process from which the final candidate will be chosen.

The choir expects this process to result in the announcement of a new associate music director in the spring of 2009. Qualifications for the position include Church membership, a doctorate in music and extensive experience in choral and orchestral conducting.
