And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. Moroni 10:4
After my baptism and confirmation, I had a great desire to know for myself if what the missionaries had taught me was true. When they were teaching me about the Book of Mormon, they shared with me a passage from the Book of Moroni.
As I kept the commitment that the missionaries extended to me, I was pondering upon what I had read: "Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts." (Moroni 10:3.)
As a 17-year-old boy, one day I closed myself in a room and knelt down and prayed in my native language. As I prayed, I asked Heavenly Father to tell me if the Book of Mormon was true and if what I am reading was true and if The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true.
During the time I was uttering these words, a certain warmth that I had never before felt fell upon me. I kept on praying and the warmth became strong. All my strength was gone for quite some time; later, as my little strength was restored, I lay on my bed for some time until my eyes opened again. The moment I opened my eyes, I was smiling and I felt great peace. I knew it was the Holy Ghost.
The exhortation from the prophet Moroni changed the entirety of my life. Elder Innocent Mashonganyika, Uganda Kampala Mission
