President Thomas S. Monson and Sister Frances Johnson Monson will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 7.
They are parents of three children: two sons, Tom and Clark, and one daughter, Ann M. Dibb. They have eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Sister Monson has quietly served in numerous Church callings. One example is especially telling: On a cold February day in 1959, President Monson came home in the middle of the day and told her that he had been called to preside over the Canadian Mission. They were to leave in less than a month.
"There was no question but what she would accept," President Monson reflected.
With two children in tow, President and Sister Monson went to Toronto. On Oct. 1 of that year, their youngest child, Clark, was born in Canada.
At that time there were no stakes in eastern Canada, only mission districts. Sister Monson had responsibility for the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary organizations within the mission until stakes were created.
Their daughter said that Sister Monson's life has been one of service; she has quietly gone about doing good. She said that Sister Monson supports and encourages, and enables others to realize their dreams.
From time to time, she has accompanied President Monson on his travels. Asked what is her favorite place, she replies, "Home."
