With the installation on Jan. 1 of John L. "Larry" Richards as the new president of LDS Business College, former president Stephen K. Woodhouse has stepped down after 17 years of presiding over the school.
President Woodhouse's tenure was so long that each of the other post-secondary institutions in the Church Educational System — Brigham Young University, BYU-Idaho and BYU-Hawaii — had three different men serve as its president in the time since President Woodhouse became the 11th head of LDS Business College on Jan. 2, 1992.
In addition to the length of his administration, President Woodhouse left his mark on the college through growth and expansion. The school's enrollment grew 65 percent under his watch, from 841 students in 1992 to 1,384 in 2008. Also, the college significantly upgraded its facilities in July 2006 when it moved to the Triad Campus located in downtown Salt Lake City at 345 West North Temple.
"President Woodhouse's legacy at the College is significant," President Richards said. "He has accomplished much that has blessed the lives of students, and has moved the college forward. The objective now is to build upon the past that he has been responsible for here."
After selling the data processing services company he co-founded, President Woodhouse came to LDS Business College in 1989 to teach computer information systems.
