The following letter from the First Presidency has been sent to General Authorities and Area Seventies; selected stake, mission and district presidents; selected bishops and branch presidents and temple presidents in the North America Southeast Area:

Dear Brethren:

Beginning Wednesday, July 1, 2009, the Atlanta Georgia Temple will close for a renovation of the temple, which will require approximately 15 to 18 months to complete.

During the closure, members are invited to attend other temples as their circumstances permit. However, inasmuch as attendance at some of the temples in the area is by appointment only, patrons or priesthood leaders should contact the temple well in advance of any planned visit.

We encourage all members to remain worthy of, or to become worthy of a temple recommend in preparation for the time when the temple will be reopened.

Sincerely yours,

The First Presidency
