HILO, HAWAII
Rainy weather and the hype of spring break weekend didn't hamper the attendance and enthusiasm of Hawaii's young single adults to the 2009 Hilo Hawaii Institute/Hilo Hawaii Stake Young Single Adult Conference held March 26-29, The Hilo Hawaii Stake welcomed 120 young single adults to the conference. They came not only from the island of Hawaii, but also from Oahu, Maui and Kauai.
The conference began at the Hilo Hawaii Stake Center in rainy Hilo with a fireside addressing the theme of the conference, "Standing in Holy Places," taken from an April 2005 general conference talk by President James E. Faust.
Those attending the conference were enriched throughout the conference with workshops addressing holiness and developing personal righteousness, as well as other topics. Tips were offered on cleaning, eating healthy, education and family enrichment. Friendships were built and strengthened between young single adults through icebreaker activities and mealtime gatherings.
Included with all of the fun and activities, the young adults rose at dawn to attend the temple in Kona. They also provided service to elderly residents of the growing town of Kea'au, providing a force of painters, sweepers, pruners and landscapers.
After an exciting day of helping others there was a 50s-themed dance.
The conference ended with an uplifting testimony meeting as members shared the growth and rejuvenation received throughout the conference. They left strengthened and committed to stand for and in holy places.
