FAMILY: Born May 16, 1952, in Bungoma, Kenya, to Nathan Barasa and Lenah Naliaka Mwasme Sitati. Married Gladys Nang'oni Nassiuma on July 10, 1976, in Mombasa, Kenya. Marriage later solemnized in the Johannesburg South Africa Temple. Five children: Martin (Noel), Elizabeth (Matthew) Farnsworth; Sarah (Eric) Obari Ng'anda, Deborah and Andrew.
EDUCATION: Received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nairobi in 1975 and a diploma in accounting and finance from the Association of Certified Accountants.Also completed course work for an MBA degree in Nairobi.
EMPLOYMENT: Executive for "Reach the Children," a nongovernmental organization. Also worked in several positions with the Total Group, the fourth largest oil and gas company in the world. Served as the Church's international director of public affairs in Africa.
CHURCH SERVICE: Serving as president of the Nigeria Calabar Mission at the time of his calling. Also served as Area Seventy, stake president, mission president's counselor, district president and branch president.
