Applications to audition for all voice parts in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be available during the month of July 2009 with completed applications and voice recordings required to be postmarked by Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009.
On a one-time-only basis for the 2009 auditions, the application age will be extended to those turning 56 in calendar year 2009. Those applicants who are 56 at the time of their acceptance into the choir will be able to sing until the year in which they turn 61, instead of the usual retirement age of 60. (This is a special, one-time-only allowance since no choir auditions were scheduled in 2008.)
Candidates for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir begin by serving in the Temple Square Chorale, the training ensemble for the choir. In order to apply for the chorale, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be between 25 and 55 years of age (56 in 2009 only).
Live within a 100-mile radius of Temple Square.
Be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in good standing.
There are a limited number of openings each year and numerous qualified applicants. However, the choir leadership encourages all who feel they meet the application criteria to apply.
