I've been teaching the Book of Mormon course of study at the Monterrey Mexico South Institute. During the first semester, I invited a friend from my ward, Graciela (Chely) Ivonne Arroyo Padron, who had not been attending institute, to enroll. She said she would and she started attending.
During a later class, I asked my students to bring friends with them, even if they were not members of the Church. Chely accepted the challenge and brought Mauro Sanchez Rodriguez, a friend from her place of employment. From that day, both participated in the course and completed it.
Mauro and Chely enrolled in the course again the second semester, coming to all the classes. During one class, we were talking about the impressions of the Holy Ghost and how they are impressed upon our heart. Suddenly, Mauro raised his hand and started to talk about his feelings and the impressions he had since attending institute.
He shared several experiences with the group. He said the first day he came, he felt something very special and couldn't help but silently begin to cry when the prayer was offered at the end of the class. He said he perfectly remembered the girl who offered the prayer that day, even though it had been eight months earlier. He also talked about a time he felt overwhelmed when he faced making a particularly hard decision in life. He said he opened up the scriptures and read section 121 in the Doctrine and Covenants and it was just the answer he was hoping for.
It was obvious Mauro was sharing his testimony with us, so I let him talk. He talked for the rest of the class period.
I felt at that time that I needed to invite him to prepare for baptism and to set a date. I read Mosiah 18:9-10. All of us felt the presence of the Holy Ghost. We rejoiced when Mauro accepted the challenge to be baptized.
The missionaries taught him and he was baptized Nov. 9, 2008. He continues to attend institute and progress in the Church. — Ricardo J. Gonzalez, Valle Verde 1st Ward, Monterrey Mexico Valle Verde Stake
