The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has had a full schedule during the past few weeks. The choir and Orchestra at Temple Square performed concerts in seven cities during a tour June 18-30. On July 17, they performed in a program in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City commemorating Pioneer Day, and on July 19, they performed in the weekly broadcast of "Music and the Spoken Word," which commemorated the 80th anniversary of the half-hour network broadcast.
On July 15, the actual 80th anniversary of "Music and the Spoken Word," the choir and orchestra performed on the campus of Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, helping that community commemorate 75 years of Pioneer Days celebrations.
The concert in Ogden was something of an extension of their summer tour, with the same musical selections performed. Some 10,000 people attended the concert.
At several concert venues on the tour, a guest conductor was invited to lead the choir and orchestra in performing "This Land Is Your Land." The guest conductor in Ogden was WSU's president, .
