Family: Born Oct. 13, 1948, in Salt Lake City to Beth Merrill and F. Briton McConkie. Married Joanne Albrecht, Sept. 2, 1971, in the Salt Lake Temple. Seven children: David Merrill, Jr. (Michelle), Peter (Hilary), Daniel (Brittany), Adam, Rachel, Angela, Amy (Spencer) Tingey; eight grandchildren.
Education: Bachelor's degree in history from the University of Utah, 1974; juris doctorate degree from the University of Utah, 1977.
Military: Staff sergeant in the Utah Air National Guard from 1968-79.
Career: Attorney at Kirton & McConkie.
Church service: Former stake president and counselor, high councilor, bishop, stake Young Men president, Sunday School teacher, full-time missionary in South Africa, 1968-70.
