Faithful members from the across Utah's Wasatch Front will gather at their local meetinghouses Sunday, Aug. 23, to participate in the dedication of the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple.

The first dedicatory session of the Church's 130th temple was expected for Friday, Aug. 21, with President Thomas S. Monson presiding. (The dedication occurred after the Church News press time for the print edition. Same-day coverage of the dedication and the temple cornerstone ceremony is available at ldschurchnews.com. Full coverage — including photos and a copy of the dedicatory prayer — will be included in the Aug. 29 issue of the Church News.)

The temple will be dedicated in nine sessions — three each day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple dedication took place Aug. 21.

Prior to the dedication, almost 600,000 people visited the Salt Lake Valley's fourth temple during the two-month open house period. Visitors included members of local and national media outlets, along with religious leaders from many faiths. Thousands of members living in the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple district served as volunteers during the open house. Some 800 were enlisted each day.

Many members and congregations from the area have utilized the construction and open house period to follow President Monson's challenge to "dedicate" their own lives to faithful living and service.

While members in the southwest section of the Salt Lake Valley celebrate their new edifice, the Church's work of temple building continues. Sixteen new temples are announced or under construction.
